How Cap Works

Cold Assisted Psychotherapy (CAP) combines deliberate and controlled cold exposure with a targeted, specialized therapeutic approach. In CAP, cold exposure is done in an onsite, state of the art cold plunge but can also be done with minimal, inexpensive equipment in your own home and via telehealth sessions. Clinical research shows that deliberate cold exposure provides many standalone mental benefits including improved mood, energy and focus, reduced anxiety and improved ability to tolerate stress.

However, CAP harnesses another, unique benefit of cold exposure for transformational change. Cold exposure instantly and effortlessly induces a state of mind known as Peak Experience. In the context of CAP, peak experience is a state of profound inner stillness and calm along with an almost paradoxical, razor sharp focus, insight and clarity. There is also a strong sense of confidence and control, heightened intuition, and a deepened connection to positive emotions. In peak experience you are able to process information at warp speed. There is no gap between your thoughts and feelings; mind and heart are in alignment and unified as one.

At the core of peak experience lies it's most foundational feature. In everyday life, the unconscious mind, governed by the brain network called the DMN (Default Mode Network), filters our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs and actions and even our physical senses through what it deems to be acceptable, tolerable and safe. This process creates our psychological coping mechanisms, known as our defenses. Unfortunately, these same defenses can get in the way of optimal functioning. During peak experience, psychological coping mechanisms instantly dissolve. In that moment we experience the truth of ourselves, our relationships and life as it is, unfiltered and free of defense induced distortions. In peak experience we gain access to our most potent power: Our own, true self.

How cold exposure creates Peak Experience

How does cold exposure induce peak experience? Exposure to deep cold causes a temporary shock to the nervous system. Neuroscientists have discovered that shock to the nervous system propels the brain out of a DMN dominated state of mind into the state of mind called Peak Experience. The peak experience results in the elation and euphoria of the skydiving experience, the powerful transformational healing wrought by psychedelic therapy, the “Aha” moments of epiphany, the radically altered perspective and the profound neurological changes brought about by Near Death Experiences. Research reveals that peak experience creates a potent window of heightened neuroplasticity that if utilized, can readily and permanently create new ways of thinking, feeling, acting, and relating to oneself, others, and life.

CAP is a cutting edge psychotherapy approach that is designed to unleash the latent, raw power of peak experience and with laser focus, channel it to the change and resolution you are seeking. CAP empowers you to easily and permanently shed beliefs, thoughts, feelings and behaviors that no longer serve you.Through integrating multiple psychotherapeutic interventions while in peak experience, CAP targets the root of your struggles and catapults you into your truest, best self.
